About
Jeremy Wilson is the Winemaker at Contentious Character, bringing extensive experience across premium Australian wine regions. His work spans a diverse range of climates and varietals, further enriched by sourcing fruit from seven regions, including select parcels from New Zealand. This breadth allows him to build a layered and dynamic portfolio that reflects both regional character and stylistic intent.
Jeremy is passionate about crafting wines that express place, season, and balance, with a focus on purity, texture, and drinkability. His approach combines technical precision with an intuitive understanding of fruit, ensuring each parcel is handled with care and purpose.
At Contentious Character, Jeremy leads the winemaking program with a minimal intervention philosophy, allowing the fruit to speak for itself. The result is a collection of wines that are vibrant, expressive, and approachable, while still offering depth and complexity in line with the winery’s modern, character-driven identity.
He also embraces a playful side to winemaking, reflected in the winery’s quirky labels such as “No Riesling to Worry”, a nod to his belief that enjoying wine should be as much about having fun as it is about appreciation, without taking it too seriously.
