Many looking for a family lawyer have already decided whether they want a “robust” advocate or an “amicable” one. If only good advocacy were that simple. “Robust” lawyers can make good on their promise while running a workable coparenting relationship into the ground. “Amicable” lawyers can make good on theirs by a sustained course of over-concession and appeasement. This presentation will introduce what advocacy means in family law; how it might be found on the page, in the mediation room and at the bar table; and why early intervention by the right advocate matters.
